Tips and Suggestions

Before The Session

We like to conduct a detailed phone consultation with you so that we can understand what you are looking for in your session. We are quite happy to meet at your home or a special outdoor location such as a nearby park or lake. If you have any suggestions or ideas, we are more than happy to work with you.

It is recommended that you select a time that works best with your family's schedule. Are your young ones usually more relaxed in the morning or afternoon? As a general rule, children photograph best when they are well rested and fed.

What To Wear

Clothing is a very important factor in determining the overall look of your portrait session. We like to focus on capturing the subject’s personality, so simple clothing works best. We recommend at least one simple outfit, such as a white shirt with jeans or khakis, but also feel free to bring along bold colors and rich textures. Be certain to avoid anything overly distracting, such as large logos and busy patterns.

If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style and tone will give a more coordinated look.

Bare skin is always a favorite with newborns and babies. You may have other clothes, but keep in mind that babies may get grouchy when there are too many clothing changes. A simple diaper cover is perfect for portraits. Clothing should compliment your child's look, not complicate it.

If you have any questions at all regarding clothing, we would be more than happy to discuss different options with you.

During The Session

Relax and have fun with it. If you have never had a session with a professional photographer, or if you are a bit nervous, stop worrying. We will provide you with all the information, coaching, and direction that you need to get the absolutely best photographs possible. Clients often comment on how easy and comfortable they felt during their sessions.

If your child is being photographed, try not to take on the role of the photographer. Children usually become confused by more than one person giving instructions. Although you are just trying to help, we have found that it becomes hectic for the child.

After The Session

Within a few days of your session, we will edit the images and then send you an email containing a link to your own private gallery. From this gallery, you may download any and all of your pictures and optionally order prints from us at competitive prices.

This is where FocusPoint is completely different. You may make whatever prints you want! You may also email/send your pictures to anyone in the world and they may make whatever prints that they want! We do not behave like so many other photographers that wish to restrict your use of "their" pictures.
